I'm headed down to Orlando march 21st for vacation. While i'm there i am heading over to Daytona beach or cocoa beach for 2-3 mile swim. Anyone familiar with the area or have any input. I just figure I'll google earth a point to point and swim like 1 mile laps along the coast while my family plays in the sand.

I often swim at New Smyrna Beach, near Daytona, when I visit my Dad. My advice is: 1) tell the lifeguards what you're doing before you get in, 2) don't let them say "no" (swimming is not a crime), and 3) check the longshore current and swim against it on your first lap.

Thanks. what issues would the lifegaurds have? daytona is publc and really long. i'm only about 30 yds in, maybe 50 and can probably still stand up.
Beach guards sometimes have a hard time with people who actually want to swim. I get called into the beach quite often by them unless I make nice first.

Another, or an additional, option is to do Luck's Lake Swim in Orlando. It is my understanding that folks do this swim Monday thru Saturday. You can view a video about it here.
I am hoping to give it a try just as soon as I work up some additional endurance.:)

I took a look at the site. It's less than 10 miles from where i'm staying so i'm going to do it. I emailed Lucky and it looks like I may be able to do a few extra passes. I will post all about it when I do it.
