I'm trying to orient my summer towards open water races. I'm looking for a recommendation on a good open water race the last weekend of June, either lake or ocean, ideally from 1M to 3M. I'd prefer something in California, but am willing to travel. I'd appreciate:
Any insight about the Lake Mendocino 2M swim that is listed on the Pacific Masters site
Has anyone done this before? If so, do you recommend it?
Does anyone know if this race will for sure be on this date? I can't seem to find a link anywhere with info about this year's event.
Are there any other races around the country people can recommend for this weekend (June 26 to 28)?

There is an Oregon OW swim at Foster Dam that weekend. It's going to be a great summer for open water in Oregon. :bliss: Here is this summer's schedule.
June 6 Hagg Lake 800, 2000, 4000
June 28 Foster Lake 1 mile
July 18-19 Applegate Lake 1500, 5K
July 31-Aug 2 Elk Lake 3000, 500, 1500, 5K, etc
Aug 16 Dorena Lake 1500, etc
Aug 22 Eel Lake 3000, 500, 1500
I'd strongly recommend any of the Oregon swims if you can fit them into your schedule. They are well-organized and are usually held in beautiful locations. Additional details will be available on the Oregon Masters website.
In contrast, last year, the Lake Medocino swim was cancelled because of air quality issues due to nearby forest fires. I received no notification of the cancellation, and no refund of any of the registration fee including amounts charged for a sweatshirt and t-shirt.
