OK -- I admit -- never been to Portland, but I'm likely there in April for a weekend (1st weekend). Any chance there are either:
Open water racing going on that weekend?
OR
Lakes/places where I can safely jump in with a wetsuit and do some open water training?

No Open water racing until June. Even then water temps are low 60's. I'm not in Portland but an hour south. A few brave souls have swum at Hagg Lake outside of Portland but temps last year were in the high 40's/low 50's. Most of us are still pool bound in April!
