Hi folks,
At the Lake Champlain swim this past summer, I met a woman who was looking to organize a 10-miler for a different Vermont lake. If you're on this forum, I'd love to know what's going on with that, or if you need any help. I'm itching to do a 10-mile and to have one within driving distance of Massachusetts would be ideal.
Thanks!
Northeast Kingdom Aquafest looks like fun. Swims of varying distances up to 10 miles. Does anyone know if the lake has leaches or Moray eels?
One Julie Gunn is among the contact people (in case the name rings a bell with first poster).

Yay! I am so glad for all of this information. And is this the swim you are doing?
If you want to e-mail me, can we go to private messages? I think this 10-miler sounds like great fun! I'm adding it to my calendar for the summer and am thrilled!
If this race is you, do you have any other information?
Another question:
Are there any folks getting ready for 5+ mile swims for this coming summer? I'm planning on now, this 10-miler, the Lake Champlain 8-mile swim, and some others, but I'd like to do some other races that are at least 5+.
Anything anyone is planning on?
Happy New year to you too!
Maui would be so exciting. We've thought about it, but it's a bit of schlep with the boy.
We haven't made any real plans--until hearing about this swim. Of course, the debate is doing this and then Lake Champlain two weeks later.
Hope you are well. We're off for a day of skiing--fresh snow here!
Say hi to Terry too.

If I am able to get in adequate training, I'd like to do some of these. The last few years have been a challenge, though. Anyway, here are some candidate swims for me:
Swim for Kids (8 mile, NJ)
Potomac River Swim (7.5 miles, MD)
Swim For Life (5 miles, MD)
Boston Light Swim (8.5 miles, MA)
VT 10-miler (a long shot, but...)
Little Red Lighthouse (5+ miles, NYC)

Leonard, if you do the Little Red Lighthouse swim maybe I will see you there. As I plan on making the trip from Indiana to NY for the swim in 2009. I will be accompanied by my soon to be Freshman in College daughter, and my recently graduated from College daughter (who won the race when she was 14) for the swim. It use to be 7 miles, now like 5 miles. But with the Current assists looks to be about a 2.5 mile swim (based on times last year). I have never done any swim like this before, so may need you to pull my butt out of trouble. :)
I did it in '02 - back when it was still about 7.8 miles. Great fun and hairy as all get out, which made it even more fun. The year I did it about 10% of the field was DQ'ed for being swept past the finish area. I BARELY made it into the finish area myself. I also had a kayaker run right over the top of me just as I turned into the finish area.
Yes, I will try to keep this on the schedule and hope to see you there. I bet we can probably talk David Barra into showing up as well. Pray for good weather.
