Training for a 10k here and have been having some issues with breathing while swimming into waves. I can't quite figure out the best place to breathe... top of the wave or bottom and it's throwing off my pull.
For the seasoned veterans, what type of rhythm do you get into during choppy conditions??

it totally depends what direction the waves are coming from.
learn to breathe equally well on both sides.
practice different breathing patterns at different speeds. in the event that you have to miss a breath you will be able to handle it easily.
be patient: make sure your mouth is clear before you commit to inhale.
inhale quickly.
keeping your head low and your stroke wide can enhance stability in the chop.
roll with it: if a wave wants to spin you around, don't fight it...its a lot of fun when you can roll and not interrupt your stroke
