Another Question about La Jolla Cove

Hey, Someone was telling me yesterday that there is a 3/8 mile buoy out there. I have not seen such a thing, either from up above or in the water. If there is one, is it on line between the quarter and half buoys or is it off to the side somewhere? Also, Ron Lockman, if you are lurking about, I am game for a cove to shores swim one of the afternoons this weekend, now that my son is gone,

So Ron..out of idle curiousity, what is your goal for the five mile? 3hours or abouts?? Alos, how far is the night owl swim? Is it structured or is it a free for all...and do they have lights on the buous?? and where does one get these light sticks...I just joined the club...it is high time I actually met some of these people...sorry, I teach a nite class m-th, but I am hoping to run into during this sunspot cycle...anita too, you were very encouraging...even without meeting you , you guys made it seem doable..

"So Ron..out of idle curiousity, what is your goal for the five mile? 3hours or abouts??" I would be REAL happy to complete the swim in 3 hours. " Alos, how far is the night owl swim?" I don`t know,...I`m guessing that its a casual swim,..some folks frolicing and others on a mission,..heading from the Cove to the Shores. " Is it structured or is it a free for all...and do they have lights on the buous?? and where does one get these light sticks...I just joined the club...it is high time I actually met some of these people...sorry, I teach a nite class m-th, but I am hoping to run into during this sunspot cycle...anita too, you were very encouraging...even without meeting you , you guys made it seem doable.." The battle is in the mind. Light sticks are available anywhere camping geat is sold. forums.usms.org/.../user_offline.gif forums.usms.org/.../report.gif

ok I will give in and reply for how it "usually" is. The night swim is semi-casual, you show up before dark @ 7 or 7:30, sign in, sign a waiver get a number and get a light stick or bracelet (in the past they were sold for a few bucks). Just at dark the lifegurads leave and a few support paddlers head out to near the A and 1/4 mile buoys usually with lights. Shortly after Bob briefs everyone ad they all meander down to the water and swim out to the 1/4 mile area paddler and then to the a and in. There's much chatting and yelping among the group. On the way in you must report your number to the poor voulnteer checkign people in, then you get cookies and cocoa and hang out chatting. There should be some decent phosphoescence in the water and all these glowing people, its quite pretty. Come early and have a picnic on the grass first you needn't swim fast, probably couldn't if you wanted to so you can eat first.

Sounds great...just one question... I thought the A buoy WAS the 1/4 mile buoy?? Hey Ron...HAPPY to go under three as in "impossible" or just at the far left end of you time range...I was extrapolating off of your GPS swim.

...anita too, you were very encouraging...even without meeting you , you guys made it seem doable.. You're very welcome. For those of us who don't swim with a team, it's nice to come into contact with others who are out there in one form or another.

Does anyone need a team member for the 10 mile relay on Sep 27? I can swim a mile around 20min or so.
