does anyone know if it is a bad idea to take ibuprofin before a long swim in cold water? if it lowers a fever, does it generally lower your body temperature when it's not feverish?

It's an anti-inflammatory, which means it would calm down inflammation causing a fever. I don't think it would lower your body temperature if you didn't have a fever. People take it for sore muscles and don't experience any chill.
If you look at English Channel swimmers you would not belive how many pain meds they are allowed to take swimming. You can see at thechannelswimmers.com "Observer reports" .
