I am traveling to the LA area in two weeks. We are staying in Santa Monica and I am looking for places to swim. Any advice?
(I'm a little nervous about swimming with all those speedy West Coasters--coming from the land of long winter...)
Thanks!

Record Last Updated: 2/9/07
There is a Master's group that meets for ocean swims in Manhattan Beach at 9am on Saturdays.
The LA Tri Club offers some swims as well-
Sundays at 8am in Manhattan Beach. There are 1 mile, 1.5 mile and 2 mile swim options.
Beginner ocean swim offered in Redondo Beach at 11am Sundays (two 1/4 mile swims).
There is a 6:30am swim in Santa Monica on Wednesdays. That's a speed workout- swim about 250 yards to the buoy, run a short sprint on the sand and back out to the buoy again as many times as you can.....there's also an Ocean 101 class at 6:15am- more of an introduction to ocean swimming aimed at beginners.
I believe there are swims in Venice on Saturday mornings as well, but it may not be every weekend. Look on the Triathlete Zombies website to check.
