Vancouver Open Water Swim?

Greetings I am vacationing in Vancouver BC this July and have been informed that there is an open water swim hosted by Vancouver Open Water Swim Association. Has anyone done these swims before? What is the venue like? Is safety well done? What are the conditions, distances etc? Any information would be appreciated. I will be swimming with my 13 yo son who is a great age group swimmer. I did my first open water swims last summer and have been training all winter. Both of us will be in good shape for a modest challenge. Thanks in advance for any information on this swim.
