I've only done one race in my life, and that was as training for something else, but this year I'm training seriously for it. Do I need to "taper" or is that just for pool meets?
The one I'm going for is 2500m and I'm hoping to break the hour. If tapering is a good idea, how do I go about it?
I'd be interested if anyone has any suggestions, thoughts or idea too.
Last year I did my training for a 3km river (first 2 downstream, last 1 up). I swam between 2500-4000 in the lake Mondays and thursday all the way up to race day. The race is on sunday with a long drive up on saturday, so I didn't want to swim friday since it takes so long for the wetsuit to dry.
This year I will participate in the 5km on friday night and the 3km on sunday morning. was thinking of swimming in the lake Mon, Tues and Thursday, and in the pool wednesdays and fridays. the plan now is to not swim in the lake the last thursday, but to just swim 1500 easy in the pool thursday morning. drive up friday morning. the race is at 1900 on friday and 1000 sunday.
