Hi all: I'm a 51 year-old enthusiast who has swum a one or two mile open water event each of the last 4 years: Newport Beach, California Pier to Pier (2m), Ocean City, MD Captain Craig (1m), Lake Erie (1m), and Reston Lake, VA (1m). I found out about each of these events by doing some really focused searching. I would love to know if anybody has put together a comprehensive list for the US and or world wide? It would be a great help. Thanks!

Thanks. Those look like saltwater events. There are lots of inland events. I've often toyed with the notion of getting together a comprehensive list, but haven't yet.
"Flivver," If you scroll through the open water threads, you'll see questions similar to yours. There are some events in the Great Lakes, both US and Canadian sides. :canada:Big Shoulders is held the second weekend in September (on a Saturday) in Chicago; your choice of 2.5k or 5k. The 8-mile Lake Champlain swim-across (NY to VT) in August has been done by swimmers on this board. Hudson River swims are famous, as is the Lake Tahoe swim (hope I got that right). I would start with the "Rants and Raves" thread, which is a lookback at people's different experiences swimming OW events in 2007, and mosey among similar threads. And maybe I'll actually get a list together. Some of the events I've checked don't have any information for 2008 but the date.
