My family and I are planning an escape to Belize in April.
After a few VERY bad sea lice experiences, I am feeling a bit nervous. I am going to stock up on Safe Sea, but I am highly allergic to the little buggers and am wondering if anyone has experience with that time of year down there. (I am allergic enough that I have to skip the St. Croix Coral Reef swim next October because my doctor thinks I need to let my immunity build again.)

I've been there twice, but in January and February, so I googled "sea lice belize" and unfortunately came up with this:

It seems they are a problem in April. Too bad, because otherwise the swimming is terrific.

I stayed on Ambergris Caye at the end of April five years ago and had no problems.
We're staying in Hopkins so I'm not sure it will be as much of a problem there. At least, I'm hoping it won't be!! (My son is very excited for the prospect of manatees swimming off-shore.)

I stayed in a resort just down the road from Hopkins last time and had some great early morning swims. Very little boat traffic, and no seagulls, oddly enough, There were jellyfish about, pink ones with no apparent tentacles. My main itch problem was with a nearly invisible insect (sand flies) which bit some people but not others. I recommend taking lots of bug repellant in addition to the Safe Sea.
Your chances of seeing manatees are pretty good, and the birds in the area are unbelievable - take binoculars!
