I am an experienced (20+ years) long distance (ironman) triathlete with a running related injury which will exclude me from triathlon competition this year.
I see this as a great opportunity to try some long distance open water swim events. I am interested in events close to home for starters (NC & SC or East Coast) and aspire to 5K possible even 10K swims.
Using Google to search it seems like many of the calendars do not have up to date postings for the 2008 events. Does anyone have up to date info on east coast events?
What about hydrating or fuleing in events longer than 2 hours?

One more question?
Are their restrictions on wetsuit use in USMS events?

June 15, 1-mile ocean swim, Virginia Beach
July 12, 2-mile lake swim, Charlottesville, National Championship
Tentatvie series in Virginia Beach. Not sure yet if it will be USMS sanctioned.
July 13, 1K
July 27, 3K
Aug 15, 5K
I'll post about the series when plans are definite.
The 10k National Championship is in your backyard this year.

I'm debating doing it, but after doing the 10k postal last year I have to decide if I want to make that training commitment again.
This one is in Charlottesville Va this summer too.
