There are a couple in CT... Keep an eye open for:
The Quassy Yacht Club Open, it has a 3, 1.5 and .5 swim...you can do all 3 events for 5miles too and also the Pattaconk Plunge in September.
In July there is the Westport point to point 1miler in the ocean.
My favorite open water swim in New England is the 2.4 mile Peaks to Portland. Great competition; currents, lobster buoys to dodge, fog, chop, a true open water swim.

A busier but also great swim is the 1.7 mile Save the Bay from Newport to Jamestown. Very well run and good post-event fun.
Good luck,
Hopper

Are there any open waters swims in Newport, Rhode Island?
There are a group of folks who swim at second beach every Tues through Friday, doing about a mile, May through October. The group also does two to three 1st to second beach swims (1.9 miles) on weekends during the summer.
You can check out our discussion forum "sachuest Beach open water swims" on this here site....
Technically the save the bay swim starts in Newport and ends in Jamestown, end of July, but you have to raise over 200 bucks. www.savebay.org for more info.
