Ive only found 1 other swimmer whose done this if you can find others please tell me. wed be doing it as a fund raiser for st.judes research hospital. We are currently enlisting sponsors, and searching for volunteers. if ou have any tips for this please comment. I can do 2.5 miles (lake water) in about 55 minutes, my friend is a newbie to open water but we have till the end of may and up until then well ramp up and do a long swim every other weekend, 5 the first, then 10 the second,ect.ect. mid march we would try 30 miles in myrtle beach while were down their. I have 10k and 15 k experience as well.. please give tips and advice and see if you can find other attempts, successes or similar feats. also would we need special permission to cross state lines this way?

Ted Erikson, of Chicago, is rather famous for swimming open water marathons, including 3 across southern Lake Michigan (1 Michigan City to Chicago); his son is also a marathoner. A quick check on Google might turn up useful information. Good luck!
