Folks,
At the risk of asking a stupid question, how do you measure out and mark an "out and back" or "triangle" open water course?
Do I need a GPS?
How big a buoy should I get? Any rope in particular? Anchor weights?
I'm thinking of just a barebones 1-1.5 mile race in a Lake. I would of course do all of the butt-work including the course set up.

If your lake has one, the local sailing center/yacht club could easily assist with bouys/marks and bottom tackle. For some labor exchange i.e. you reciprocate, I'll bet the sailors would offer to set the marks and assist with the event.
