Please recommend a swim in 2008

Hi - I have completed a few 2.5-3 mile swims in open water and am interested in going further next year. What would you recommend if I'm interested in swimming a 5-10 mile organized lake swim in the US in '08? I'd be most interested in anything with water temps in the mid seventies or higher. Thanks so much for your advice! Dave

  • If you're really looking for an open water swimming adventure, consider doing the 6 x 6 Santa Barabara Channel Relay on September 5 & 6. Six relay teams of six people each will start between 12 midnight & 2 a.m. at Santa Cruz Island to swim the 26 miles back to Santa Barbara. Each leg is 60 minutes and you're limited to goggles, swim cap & swim suit - no wetsuits. The website is www.santabarbarachannelswim.org/ (This is not to be confused with the June relay that is listed on the website.) You're almost 100% guaranteed to be visited by dolphins during this swim as well. Emilio Casanueva is the race director and his contact information is at the website if you have specific questions.
