Novice in Chicago area (evanston, IL) w/general ?s

Hello,
Thanks in advance for any information. I am just trying to get some basic info about the OW swimming options for someone located in Evanston, IL. Obviously, the season for beginners is over or close to being over so this is just for future planning.
I believe the closest OW swim to me is at the Touhy & Sheridan beach in E.Rogers Park.
Does anyone have any experience with this beach? Is there anything closer to Evanston?

I am not familiar with that beach. Once the season starts again there will be a lot of open water swimmers at Ohio Street beach. This is a good place to train. You can swim parallel to the bike path for about 800M. If you are tired you can stand up most of the way and there are ladders to exit if you ever need them
There are quite a number of swimmers there every weekend both Sat and Sun
