I'm back in the game!

Three weeks until the Tiburon Mile. I was getting worried because I had only been training seriously for about 2 months after not getting in the water very much in the past two years (I did bike 10000 miles, however) and my times were just not dropping. Moreover, my rather short attention span limits my max distance in a pool without stopping to about 400 yards. I just didn't know what would happen if I jumped in the water and had to swim a longer distance. Anyway, I went up to Lake Natoma today and swam a measured distance of 1.11 nautical miles in about 46 minutes. Yes, I know that's about as slow as an 8th grader with a hall pass, but it translates to about a 35 minute Tiburon swim if my caluclation regarding the projected (favorable) currents are correct. When I did the same swim in 2004, I finished in 31:42 with better currents than those which are predicted. I'm just stoked because my reason for being out of the water for so long was due to back problems which at one point had me thinking I was done swimming for good.
