Anyone here swim this last Saturday? I will quote from the official site:
This was a race to remember with grueling conditions from end to end.
* 20-mph winds from the NW into the swimmers' path through the race
* Horrendous waves, especially after the Long Island Bridge
* Cold water throughout the race
My daughter won the womens side, really pumped for the "worse conditions in 10 years" . she wanted a race to prove she is ready for the Channel, not the little Red Light House swim at 16, nor swimming the Manhattan Marathon at 18 were not enough. Almost 4 hours of 60 degree temp. stopping to ride out some waves, swimming impossible, Those on scene say they think she is ready........Guess I best be sending in for my passport, understand that it takes awhile.
First race of this kind I have not attended in person, will never make that mistake again. Anyone know of any links (checked the Boton Globe and Herald) would much appreciate. :wine:

Congrats to your daughter! That's awesome! I badly wanted to do it this year, but my shoulder kept bugging me so much that sometime in mid-July I decided against it. (Well, it was the shoulder, but also the fact that I haven't lasted more than an hour and a half in 60-degree water.) Next year though...here's hoping the conditions for 2008 will be a little better!
Is she planning to swim the Channel next year? Does she have a slot yet? After reading about this race, I would say she's more than ready!
