How to stay warm and strong while swimming Donner Lake.

I just swam Donner Lake this morning, long swim!! I've been swimming open water for a few years. Half way through the swim I began to really feel the cold and it slowed my stroke down a lot. How can I stay warm and strong during this race. When I finished it took me 45 minutes to get warm. I even practice in Lake Natoma which is very cold. Thanks for any advice out there.:notworthy: pills11.com ;))

Donner lake not too cold to swim in with out a wet suit 64-69 degrees. I thought Donner lake was colder than that. Lake Tahoe is around 65 - 68 degrees this time of year, and every time I have been to Donner Lake, it has felt significantly colder than Tahoe.
