How to stay warm and strong while swimming Donner Lake.
Former Member
I just swam Donner Lake this morning, long swim!! I've been swimming open water for a few years. Half way through the swim I began to really feel the cold and it slowed my stroke down a lot. How can I stay warm and strong during this race. When I finished it took me 45 minutes to get warm. I even practice in Lake Natoma which is very cold. Thanks for any advice out there.:notworthy:

I dont know if a wet suit is what you may want or need but thats one way. Another way is to wear a cold water swim cap as most body heat leaves thru the head. Drinking some hot tea and eating a good breakfast like hot oatmeal and toast helps too. Warming up by exercising moving about before the swim is always a good idea..
