Recommendations for googles and lens colors for open water swim

Hello Open Water Swimmers I've participated in a few open water swims over the past few years. My view above the water using regular clear lens googles, when headed in the general direction of the sun, is really poor with clear lenses mainly due to glare. Any recommendations on the type of google/mask and lens color to use to reduce the sun's glare? Thanks Steve Michigan Masters

  • I used to rely exclusively on Aquasphere XP dark tint goggles. They've stopped making the darkest ones but the blue tinted are good too. I like them in all conditions because they are great at glare reduction. I also find they're great in terms of the impact on your face. I was starting to get what the doctor told me was going to be permanent water retention in my eyelids because of regular goggles. These spread out the impact, and give great visibility. I look like an idiot in them but I've gotten over that. I actually wear a clear pair for regular practices and several of my teammates have switched over to them as well. Good luck! Sydne
