Leg cramps when wearing a wet suit

Anyone have this happen? I routinely swim 4000 yards 5 times per week. When I start training for open water events and swim with a wet suit, I get calf and hamstring cramps. Could it be the compression of the wetsuit on those muscles? This is recurring thing. Never happens in the pool without one. Tree

  • Cramps frequently occur when you're not properly hydrated; and cold water can increase the possibility of incurring cramps. I don't believe it's associated with wearing the wetsuit. Make sure you're fully hydrated - an electrolyte replacement drink perhaps; and do some stretching exercises of the affected body parts before you get in. Hope the above works for you. Gary
