I have two limitations that keep me from going long.
1. Elbows and finger joints. They both begin to ache terribly at about the 2.5 mile mark.
2. Swimmer's Ear. I've tried OTC remedies with little relief. The only help I get is by staying out of the water for several days. Once I get back to 3 sessions/week or more, it comes back. I know itching sounds wimpy, but try working durring the day with your finger stuck in your ear. It can drive you crazy! I've also tried silicone earplugs. They're a major hassle, and not much use.
I can't imagine either of these things are unique, any ideas?

Can't help with #1, but for #2, I had the same problem and this worked for me:
Get an ear bulb and use it to flush the gunk that is deep in the ear canal out. (Follow directions on the package for use.) Then after every swim/shower/bath use a homemade mixture of 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% white vinegar in each ear (a drop or two is enough.) Repeat as needed, but after about 6 weeks you probably will only have to flush your ears a few times a year.
Your milegae may vary,
