This swim was held on Dec. 30th. My daughter was suppose to swim this but being that it was her first ocean swim (and that she's 11)she decided the conditions weren't optimal. I wasn't there but spoke to her on the phone on the beach, I guess there were red and purple flags out and her sister was stung but a man-o-war the previous day. Anyone do this event ? How were the conditions from your perspective ? My daughter has done up to a 3000k
event in lakes up here but I guess she couldn't get past the breakers that morning.
My college daughter did the 5K swim. She said the waves were 5 to 6 feet and part of the swim was directly into the waves (she described it to me on the phone as she was talking to someone else in the background so I didn't quite get it all.) She ended up winning it by about 3 minutes going around 1:07. It would have been a very tough race for an 11 year old unless she is much stronger than the typical 11 year old given the conditions. It was better she waits for reasonable conditions.
