Open Water Partner in Tulsa, Oklahoma

I'm thinking about training for the ALCATRAZ Swim on September 2, 2007 and looking for a training partner in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area that would also be interested. I've never trained or really for that matter, done much open water swimming. I'm 50 years old and swim 3-4 times per week ~~ 2,000 yds per workout. If you're interested let me know. I see where the Alcatraz swim is limited to 450 swimmers, so we would probably need to sign up fairly soon. For more information on the swim go to: www.alcatraz100.com/register.asp Cheers and Happy New Years! Paul Clark :applaud: tulclark@yahoo.com

Hi Paul, I'm sorry, I don't know of any Tulsa swimmers because I live a long way away from you (the tropics). But there are many swim forums, as well as Masters teams USA-wide. Maybe you could contact some in the Dallas area and pose this question. I, too, have to swim alone because of where I live, and it sure would be more pleasant to have a partner. As big as the swimming world is, it is also very small. Maybe some from the Masters programs in Texas will know of a swimmer in Oklahoma trying to accomplish that Alcatrez swim. But if you can't find one, train on your own and do the swim because the accomplishment will be huge and go down in your memory books. And, that as they say, is it. If you can't find anyone and want any type of training tips, be sure to post it under General Discussions also; there are lots of OW swimmers there also. I wish you the best of luck and success on your training and swim. I have done the Alcatrez swim several times and really enjoyed it, but be sure to train in colder water!!! I was invited to participate in an English Channel swim, relay style, but I had to say no because the only water I can train in is over 80 degrees; not conducive to the Channel. Donna
