Hi everyone,
I only recently joined this forum and I posted in an earlier thread about my attempting an 18 miler from Roatan to Utila in 18 months. Today, I got an email from someone who read my post here at USMS Forum. His name is Steve and he owns a dive resort and hotel on Utila. Small world!!!
He has donated an escort boat, hotel rooms on Utila, and anything else I need. He has also researched the currents/tides/etc. and it looks like August-Sept-Oct would be best for the swim provided no hurricanes roar through here next year.
What this means is I may have to push up the swim (oops!) or push it farther out. I will know early this summer. Steve did tell me that even though the east winds going west will aid me, there is a current going the opposite way which creates waves (shoot--but I'll deal with it.) He just doesn't want me ending up in Belize for that far overshoots Utila (LOL).
So, not only do I want to thank Steve, I also want to thank Coach Paul (a member here also) for Paul wants to be involved in the swim in one way or the other after he finishes his Ironman competition, and he may take a crack at it with me. It is too early for details, but I just had to thank this forum for being so widespread that my mission to do such a thing has already reached such helpful people!!!!
Guess I should start training now, you think? As for my thread about Dissing.....this one's for Jenny and any and all people who make disparaging remarks when a person wants to attempt the unthinkable!!! This looks as if it is going to become a reality.

I thought to reply to you earlier but i'mnew to this group and posting challenged it seems. Coach Paul is one of my training partners and we have discussed the logistics of doing this swim with you. I am a slower swimmer than he is, but also interested in perhaps giving it a go after my ironman competition as well.

This will the first attempt of crossing this stretch of water. Now I have my support people in place which completes the circle of the all of the unknowns.
Just in the last 24 hours, I am being contacted about this at a furious pace. I will obtain all information and pass it along. A representative of ESPN in Honduras found me at dinner and chatted about it. I had been in touch with them, but did not know for certain that they were so interested.

This is really good news. I was the one who saw your first post and forwarded it to Paul. I thought it sounded like such an awesome endeavor We will both be so excited as the details become more available.
I am one who believes that most anything is possible, and paul is an excellent supporter and never one to back from a challenge!
