5) Manhattan Island Marathon -backstroke under the Brooklyn Bridge.

As the MIM swim is timed to take advantage of the currents, the east river portion goes by at a quick pace and minutes after the Brooklyn Bridge, you will have the opportunity to swim backstroke under the Manhattan Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge.
It is almost a spiritual experience whenever i am fortunate enough to swim in the shadows of such powerful and graceful structures.
The Manhattan Island Foundation has a swim across the Brooklyn Bridge.
