Hi folks. I have 4x10k and over swims coming up over the summer months. In the past I would train up to 2-3 days before the event without dropping intensity or distance. I would then do nothing but have a massage, try to rest and tear my hair out with boredom.
I have done reasonably well in these swims but was thinking about tapering like a pool swimmer about 2 weeks out from my first 10k.
However I am concerned about losing some aerobic conditioning due to the gradual dip in distance and intensity. I know that pool swimmers taper as a norm but then they mostly use their anerobic system so ultra endurance is not usually their thing.
Has anyone got any thoughts as to whether tapering is a good idea for the ow ld swimmer??
I swim the longer distances 1000 and 1650. This year I really only tapered for about 3 days, doing just a few sprints at the end of practice. I did drop my weight lifting routine about 4 weeks out. This combination did great for me. I took about 2 minutes off my 1650.
