Surprised no one posted this, but Christof Wandsratch of Germany did 7:03 for the England to France, English Channel crossing on 2 August. Details at http://www.soloswims.com and then click on the appropriate link under channel swimming.

The reason I began to swim as a child was to some day swim the chanel. It hasn't happened yet. I've tried to swim long distances in open water but usually have ot give up because I get so cold. I'm 6ft6in and weigh 185. I've been told that I could never get the body fat to do it. Now there are relay teams. If anyone is interested in forminga relay team with a skinny, strong swimmer, let me know.

I guess I'm kinda a tall skinny swimmer too - not THAT skinny though! 5'8" and about 125 pounds. Almost 45 years old. If you get a relay together, let me know... I could be talked into it... I've been talked into stranger things before! I definitely could never do the whole channel, but I'd love to be able to say that I took part in a relay. By the way, during these days, an Italian swimmer named Simone Menoni is going to attempt to break the new record. He was hoping to "just" have to break Chad's record... oh, well! Things happen. We'll just have to see how Simone does! He's got a website: http://www.simonemenoni.it/
  • I saw that Wandratsch’s amazing swim sanctioned by the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation and not the Channel Swimming Association. Does anyone know if these two bodies have reconciled their differences and if the CSA will recognize this as the record?

I'm a tall and not-so-skinny swimmer (5'9" and just over 200 lbs, but it's comin' down :) and I'd love to do the Channel some day. I'm doing a 5K open water swim in two weeks, all breaststroke. :) Heather

By the by, Simone Menoni did NOT complete his swim yesterday. He was pulled out of the water after 5 or 6 waters for hypothermia... Italians are used to warmer water...
