I posted a semi tongue n cheek question about what colors to avoid when swimming in water potentially filled with sharks. Let me post a follow up: how do you tune out the knowledge that sharks may be around? I've done a fair bit of windsurfing in various oceans around the world. I can never get over the willys.

Just realize that you are more likely to get in an auto accident driving to and open water event than getting eaten alive my a shark. And when all else fails swim so fast that oxygen debt will cloud yor mind enough to forget your troubles :D
I don't do any open water swimming, but I have done some scuba diving (where I've actually seen a shark or two). I just keep telling myself that humans really aren't on a shark's menu.
Sometimes that works. :p
