THat's the California (SO Cal) channel islands. I'm thinking about picking 2 islands and swimming from one to the next form my b'day next summer. Has anyone done this & do you ahve any htoughts? Iv'e paddled out to ANacapa and Catalina but the heavy shipping, oil rigs and etc don't seem like much fun. Anacapa was a beautiful destination so I have to work that in. I shoudl be able to get 1-2 large sial boats for support and kayakers as well. FIrst I need to pick islands and a plan and then paln the training! RIght now its so smokey I can't swim but i cna look at maps and dream! So looking for any input and particualrly anyone who has landed on these islands (some are closed for landing too). Thanks!

You may want to consider giving yourself a birthday trip to Hawaii to swim the Maui Channel race from Lanai to Maui. It's a little over 9 miles and has individual swimmers as well as relays. A great event! It's the Saturday before Labor Day, so I think that's Sept. 4 in 2004. Then you can hop over for the Waikiki Roughwater on Labor day. Lots of fun, lots of swimmers and outstanding water. carl
