Date: Sunday, September 14 Time: 10:00am Site: Strand Beach at Salt Creek State Beach, Dana Point, CA The 2nd annual American Mile 1-mile ocean swim is being held to benefit the Twin Towers Orphan Fund. This organization was established two years ago to provide long-term emotional and educational support for young victims of the September 11 tragedy. The race is held on a beautiful stretch of beach directly below the Ritz Carlton-Laguna Niguel in Dana Point. The course stretches south with sweeping views of spectacular homes on the bluff and the imposing face of Dana Point directly in front of you before turning at two buoys and coming back north to the finish on the beach. Randy Eickhoff, Gerry Rodrigues, Diane Graner-Gallas, Tory Dober and Heidi Christensen were among the top 6 finishers in a fast race last year. Entries are $30 and include an embroidered commemorative race hat if postmarked by September 5. $20 of every pre-entered $30 fee goes directly to the Fund. 100% of every race day entry (also $30) goes to the Fund. Hats will be sold (while supplies last) for $10 at the race and donations to the Fund are welcomed. Age group awards (top-3) include $5-10-$15 gift certificates to restaurants and coffee houses. The top male and female in the 19-49 and 50-over will receive $50 gift certificates to excellent local restaurants, and $25 gift certificates to local surf/clothing shops will be given to "final finishers" in those age groups. FOR ALL OF YOU ATTENDING THE CONVENTION IN SAN DIEGO, DANA POINT IS A SHORT 1-HOUR DRIVE UP SCENIC INTERSTATE 5. WHAT BETTER WAY TO WIND DOWN FROM A BUSY WEEK OF MEETINGS AND SPEECHES AND TO WRAP UP THE SUMMER THAN TO VISIT ONE OF THE BEST COASTAL TOWNS IN CALIFORNIA!
