2012 Canadian Nationals in Kelowna, B.C.

:canada: Oh Canada... :canada: The Event Announcement for next spring (May 18-21, 2012): okmasters.com/.../2012-cmsc-nationals-kelowna :canada: I know it's early, but I might as well start getting ready. Definitely cheaper than flying cross country to USMS Nats. This is about 5 hours due north from here, and I'm sure many from PNA will attend as well. :canada: Will you be going?? I suppose I need to get some kind of passport as well. :canada:
  • Yeah, sounds like they will be running all heats in one half of the pool and warmups in the other half. With an entry limit of 600 swimmers a single course should be fine.

It is probably a good thing it is SCM as they don't really have a proper warmup area for LCM meets. For age group LCM meets I heard they put a couple lanes in the wavepool but one of the walls is rounded not flat.

  • According to the latest Records and Tabulation conference call minutes: www.usms.org/.../records-2012-2-26-1.pdf We may not have to do the measuring for Kelowna, if I'm reading that correctly. Or possibly for this year, we'll still have to follow the "old rules" for USMS recognition of Top Ten.
First of all, you certainly cannot count on any one rule proposal to pass. Secondly, from what I understand, rules that pass come into force on 1/1/13 unless we specifically ask for it to apply retroactively, something that may not be granted and that we haven't talked about as a committee anyway. Since the meet happens before Convention, I would proceed with the safer assumption that the rule proposal will fail.
  • We may not have to do the measuring for Kelowna, if I'm reading that correctly ... That's not at all the way I read it. The way I read it, there were three objections to accepting the 2011 results for TTs and and NRs: There are three reasons these times were not included: The submission deadline was missed (violates Article 105.1.2). It is the responsibility of the swimmer to submit times with complete documentation to the appropriate LMSC Top 10 recorder (violates Article 202.2). Pool measurement requirements were not met (violates Article 105.1.7C-D). Therefore, to overcome the objections for 2012, you need to, Submit the results on time. Make sure the appropriate LMSC Top 10 recorder receives complete documentation. Meet the pool measurement requirements. That seems pretty straightforward to me.
  • Anyone else planning to go to Canadian Nationals? I'd love to meet some of the USMS forum users! May 18 - 21 in Kelowna, BC. A beautiful place to visit! Of other forumites...I only know of one other (from Seattle), but I'll let him answer for himself. :) I have 3 other teammates from Wenatchee coming up as well. We'll all be staying together as a big happy family in their motorhome. Saves money!! There are also at least 2 or 3 more coming from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho as well. One of those is a youngin' who is going for Master's WRs in a few events.
