I was there in January 2010, and I remember seeing a couple of public pools. We stopped at one and it didn't look very clean.
I don't like open water swimming very much, but I swam in the ocean every day for at least 30 minutes. One day, we swam from the beach near the aquarium to Thatch Cay, which for us was an hour round-trip swim that included a five-minute rest at Thatch Cay before swimming back. It's a very tough swim, and probably better than any 4,000-meter workout I would have gotten in that icky pool!
