Two Day LCM Meet at UTK in Knoxville, July 9-10

Just announced today! Eager for a chance to swim LCM before nationals? Want to swim in an excellent, state-of-the-art indoor NCAA Division I competition pool? Want a pretty full program of events and a generous two day schedule? Come to the GKMS LCM Summer Splash Last Chance Meet at the outstanding Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center (pic, pic) at the University of Tennessee! 2011 GKMS LCM Summer Splash Last Chance Meet KNOXVILLE, TN, July 9th & 10th , 2011 (USMS Sanction 151-005) Why is this in general discussion, and not in event announcements? Because we are just getting started, this is the first LCM masters meet in Knoxville since the dawn of time, and we’re interested in any tips & tricks of the trade to help get the meets established! Is it true that a two-day schedule is more attractive to out-of-town swimmers, who have to travel? Will the absence of the 800 and/or 1500 free from the program discourage too many people? Will the presence of the 400 IM attract its newest devotee, want2beafish? Is our new masters coach, meet director, instigator, organizer, energizer bunny, & signature asset Jessica Hart the awesomest ever or what?? Also there are more eyeballs here. Spread the word! Thanks!

    Just announced today! Will the presence of the 400 IM attract its newest devotee, want2beafish? Umm.... no. SCY vs. LCM -- two different animals entirely. :) But I will check my family's schedule, try to be there for the other events (yay 200 back!!!), and spread the word!!

But I can't explain why the 50 free and 100 back are swapped at the end!
  • I am really sorry I won't be able to attend this meet. The folks and facility in Knoxville are world class. Judd, I don't arrive in the U.S. until July 23rd, but I plan on being at summer nats. Hope to see you guys there.

  • I've sent this out to all of our club members. We are planning on swimming one LC meet this summer, even though we don't train LC. Problem is, we've been invited to the LC meet in Carbondale, IL on the same weekend. It's exactly the same driving distance to both meets for us. Our members will vote on which one we attend. Will let you know ASAP.

Will let you know ASAP. The pool at UT is WAY nicer plus I feel like I should support a meet in my LMSC and my state!!!

Will let you know ASAP. OF COURSE you are most welcome and strongly encouraged to come to our humble facility here in Knoxville! May I quibble with your estimation of the driving burden? According to my investigations, driving from Shelbyville, TN to Carbondale, IL takes 4 hours 28 minutes (261 miles), but driving from Shelbyville, TN to Knoxville, TN only takes 3 hours 25 minutes (207 miles). In all fairness, your teammates should have accurate information prior to voting! While I confess to shameless cheering for the home team here, I will resist the urge to post a link to a rousing rendition of Rocky Top. You're welcome.
