2011 USMS Summer LCM Nationals in Auburn, AL

The 2011 USMS Summer LCM Nationals RESULTS Aug 3 - 6, 2011 at Auburn University in Auburn, AL MAP Order of Events Qualifying Times Aquatic Center Hotels Visitors Guide Auburn Masters Swim Team Auburn University Women's & Men's Swimming & Diving ARE you going? What suit are you going to rock in your races? TIPS One of the masters swimmers I train with went to Auburn, this morning I asked him "How do you get to Auburn?" He said fly into Atlanta then drive 2 hours to Auburn. He added if you do this, one thing you want to be aware of is Atlanta is on Eastern Time & Auburn is on Central time so when you drive from: Atlanta to Auburn you subtract an hour & Auburn to Atlanta you add an hour.
  • At this point I am going to go. LCM is really not my favorite but the timing is good with the start of the new school year. I am thinking of 200/400/1500 Freestyle and 200 (maybe 100 instead) Fly. I''m trying to talk my oldest daughter (25 and former CHS swimmer) to going along and doing 50/100 Backstrokes and 50 Free. I got her in the water last summer and she was looking good! She stopped swimming due to work/school commitments but maybe an Alabama trip would motivate her! I'd also have a counter for my 1,500!

I did that meet a few years ago and it's a good one, but I'll probably do the Gil Young in Gresham, OR instead. It's pretty early (July 8-10), but might work out well because I can concentrate on pool swimming up till then and then shift my focus to open water after that weekend. Even with the high price of gas I think driving to the Portland area will be cheaper than flying to Orange County! Gil Young is always a good meet. This year it is apparently also the Association meet.
  • Gil Young is always a good meet. This year it is apparently also the Association meet. I am planning to go to the Gil Young meet, though I haven't registered yet. FYI, some information has emerged on the June 12 Corvallis LCM meet: www.clubassistant.com/.../meet_information.cfm The good: it's an LCM Masters meet! :applaud: it's pentathlon format, but the events are scrambled so that someone who wants to swim multiple events of the same stroke can do that with reasonable rest between events The bad: 7:30 am warmup you can't enter the 400 IM unless you also enter all of the long-distance pentathlon events (200 of each stroke) The ugly: it's a 5 hour drive each way for me :afraid:... so I'm not sure if I'm going to be there
  • There is another meet at Mt. Hood in mid June - a USA Swimming meet. Howard Jones Senior blah blah blah...And USAS Northwest Sectionals in mid/late July (both events here www.teamunify.com/EventsCurrent.jsp ... I just gotta get me some more cuts :)
  • it's a 5 hour drive each way for me :afraid:... so I'm not sure if I'm going to be there Too bad Amtrak doesn't go through Corvallis. You could get there, but it would require a bus transfer.

  • Thought I would put this here instead of the sandbagging thread. Elaine was asking about the conditions at Auburn for Nationals. Thanks, Peter. Yes, I remember that diving well now. At Athens, it was a separate pool, so it was kept much warmer. At Auburn, having it be part of the same body of water will help! :applaud:
  • I know there is a shuttle available, but I would be interested in paying gas expenses to someone for a lift from Atlanta to the Auburn Univ hotel if someone has a flight that matches up and has room for a passenger. My only restrictions are....that you don't drive like cab drivers in South America or smoke cigarettes or narcotic substances in the car... I am getting to Atlanta at 1:40 p.m. on August 3 and have a flight going out at 11 on August 7. I would also consider sharing a room with a female swimmer at the Auburn Univ hotel, where I already have a reservation. I will admit my habits are unique. I turn in early at night and am not a big TV fan or someone who is in the bathroom for 2 hours getting ready...I also will be listening to interview recordings and working on my computer a lot! If you think you could stand all that, please send me a private message.
  • I may be coming just to watch. Considering I don't have access to a LC pool, it would be a disaster, if I tried to swim. I'll be using the weekend as a little vacation to come and see what LC is all about.

It probably wouldn't be a disaster.Yes 50M is a long way without turns, but it is still swimming and you might find you like it more. There are ways to prepare for LCM in an SCY pool, for instance I swim 125s instead of 100s and don't push off on every other turn(just turn at the wall and start swimming from a dead stop.) Consider swimming at the meet.
