I have been working on my sprints and lowering my times in the 100 free. What would be some good workouts to develop that back end speed. That last 30 yards or so gets to be pretty tough. Any one have any good workouts to strengthen their last 25-30 yards in a 100 yd. free swim?

1. Improve your top speed.
2. Improve your endurance.
3. Do broken 100s (2x50) with very short rest. If you can do a 100 in practice in about 50 seconds, then start the second one 30 seconds after you start the first one. Finish them both to a touch and compare your times. Do these until you can regularly go the exact same speed on both 50s.
4. In a meet, swim much slower than you feel like swimming on the first 50. Even if you've done #3 and you can do even splits consistently in practice, you will get too hyped at a meet. The bigger the meet, the more this is true.
