  • I'm not so much looking for fair...just hate to see 25% of the top swimmers not swim a event...specially the 50 where the top times are separated by hundredths of a second. I suspect it is related to money (isn't everything?). Does the school or NCAA foot the bill for travel/accommodations if you qualify for the meet? If the NCAA reimburses the host school for the cost of running the championships that could play a factor as well. In these instances, they're obviously going to want fewer athletes to attend the meet. On another note, I think it's ridiculous that significantly more girls are allowed at their meet. But this is common across the board at high level meets. Interestingly enough, USA-S nationals sometimes allows qualifiers to swim bonus events as well, when they might otherwise not be the next fastest person.
