Actually if a swimmer gets "invited" in one event and has B cuts in other events then the swimmer may swim those other events. They don't necessarily have to have the A cut, very few swimmers make the A cuts. The NCAA meet allows a certain number of swimmers in the meet (like 270) Many swimmers get IN the meet with relays. If a relay is the only way a swimmer gets in the meet then that swimmer has to swim that relay.
(UT women got DQed on a relay because they didn't swim a swimmer on a particular relay.)
That's also why several conference meets scheduled relays first and why many scheduled the 4 x 200 fr & 4 x 50 medley relays on Wednesday.
The meets used to just take place on Thu, Fri, & Sat.
If a swimmer makes an "A" cut in one event and "B" cuts in their other events, then the swimmer is allowed to swim their "B" events, if they want too.
