  • ^^Yes, I definitely agree with the above regarding depth. I think the amount of scholarships available makes a difference. My college team had 3 - 4 full scholarships that were split between the mens team. For the big teams such as Auburn, Texas.etc. how many scholarships are usually allocated for the team? Div 1 Womens Swimming and Diving Programs are allowed to have 14 scholarships Div 1 Mens Swimming and Diving Programs are allowed to have 9.9 scholarships How Many Swimming Scholarships ARE Available? The NCAA Women’s Div I Swimming and Diving programs may offer a total of 14 full scholarships per schools, and the Men’s Swimming and Diving programs, 9.9. Considering the number of schools with women’s swim teams-- close to 200 for any given year--and the number with men’s swim teams, at about 140, the total number of swimming and diving scholarships available to Div I swimmers and divers is over 4,000. from Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Scholarship Options This makes recruiting quite challenging for schools. Each year a D1 mens swimming & Diving program has around 2.5 scholarships to divvy up. Pretty much everyone on the mens team has partial scholarships, except for walk ons. I believe Books count as a 1% of a scholarship. Most of the womens team are on full scholarships. If an athlete receives a partial scholarship, then the school's academic admission standards for that athlete shift from whatever the school requires to the NCAA minimum standards which is a sliding scale that looks at the students GPA & SAT score. The higher the students GPA the lower the required SAT score. The 2010-2011 Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete shows the scale on page 6. As an example UT is pretty tough to get into, most students need to be in the top 10% of their classes to be accepted. Plus high school classes tend to shrink due to drop outs. I think my son's class started with over 500 students his fr year and but by the first semester of his sr year there were around 325.
