Dara Torres did the same thing in 2008- scratching from the 100 free individual swim. They did end up including 7th place finisher Kara Lynn Joyce on the Olympic squad. Joyce then ended up swimming the 50 free at the Olympics because she was the next highest ranked swimmer on the squad in that event after Jessica Hardy was removed from the team. She made he finals in the 50, making the most of the second chance. Swimswam is saying he got the call to be on the team this morning. I'm guessing it's not official because USA Swimming hadn't officially added any of the 5th and 6th places in the 100/200 free yet. (They were described as 'pending space available' last night even though neither side is going to go over 26 swimmers.)

I really want to see Berens drop a 1:44 individually in London. I think it's possible.
  • Tonight is the women's 800 free final and tomorrow is the men's 1500 free final. Far more important than the swimming is the question on all of our minds: which will be greater, the number of commercial breaks during the race, or the number of slow-motion replays of the winner turning to stare at the scoreboard? Also will Connor Jaeger stop at 1500 this time or keep going as he did in prelims? And how many times will Rowdy and Dan comment on Connor’s 1600?
  • How about Katie Ledecky's 800 FR last night? Remarkable! here's how she swam it 1 5 LEDECKY Kathleen CUBUPV 0.69 8:19.78 29.03 050m ﴾2﴿ 0:29.03 30.51 100m ﴾1﴿ 0:59.54 30.92 150m ﴾1﴿ 1:30.46 31.21 200m ﴾1﴿ 2:01.67 31.68 250m ﴾1﴿ 2:33.35 31.70 300m ﴾1﴿ 3:05.05 31.58 350m ﴾1﴿ 3:36.63 31.82 400m ﴾1﴿ 4:08.45 31.59 450m ﴾1﴿ 4:40.04 31.88 500m ﴾1﴿ 5:11.92 31.29 550m ﴾1﴿ 5:43.21 31.83 600m ﴾1﴿ 6:15.04 31.35 650m ﴾1﴿ 6:46.39 31.57 700m ﴾1﴿ 7:17.96 31.85 750m ﴾1﴿ 7:49.81 29.97 800m (1) 8:19.78 here are some of her time progressions 50 FR LCM 14 27.52 13 28.98 12 29.23 11 30.53 10 31.65 09 33.07 08 35.43 100 FR LCM 15 56.71 14 56.86 13 58.32 12 1:00.97 11 1:03.73 10 1:07.15 09 1:12.86 08 1:22.03 200 FR LCM 15 1:58.66 14 2:00.01 13 2:05.17 12 2:11.86 11 2:17.39 10 2:30.59 09 2:46.83 400 FR LCM 15 4:05.00 14 4:09.30 13 4:20.30 12 4:39.27 11 4:50.80 10 5:28.09 800 FR LCM 15 8:19.78 14 8:30.14 13 8:58.86 12 9:58.38 11 10:20.68 1500 FR LCM 14 16:24.46 13 16:58.55
  • I thought the split screen shot which showed her stroke from the front while Andrea Kremer was talking was a nice touch. I said earlier in this thread that I didn't think Ziegler was going to make the team. I'm quite happy to be wrong about that. :turkey:
  • OK, so now that the west coast got to watch (or not really watch) the Men's 1500 Free...did anyone get a video of the entire race so that we can actually view the race in it's entirety?? I know NBC has better things to do, but many people would've liked watching the race, if even on a split screen. :bouncing:
  • Ande - I'm new to looking at all these different kinds of swimming stats. Is the first column of numbers in Ledecky's time progressions her age for each of those swims? Also, I've been wanting to thank you for your posts during the time trials which made it a whole lot easier to follow along with the excitement!
  • I know NBC has better things to do, but many people would've liked watching the race, if even on a split screen. :bouncing: The coverage was ridiculous. They had nothing else to show tonight and they still didn't show the race. They start the coverage when the race was already in progress, show maybe 100 meters, then go to commercial and when they come back it's a completely different race. I guess interviewing someone who didn't make the team (Torres) was more important than an actual race. Couldn't they show the interview with Dara after the 1500 was over? What a joke. And a big WTF in the Tarmoh vs. Felix runoff in the T&F Trials. Tarmoh concedes the race? Why on earth would she do that? She comes this far and gives up? I smell a rat.

I mean, what was that? Lead change during commercial happened during '08 Trials as well.
