  • Lochte scratched the 100 back semi after posting 53.92 in prelims. That time doesn't seem likely to earn him a medley relay spot. swimswam.com/.../ Nick Brunelli and Jacob Pebley tied for 17th and thus move up to 16th, which would normally position them for a swimoff. Tonight's heat sheet just went up and it lists Pebley in the 16 slot and Brunelli as the first alternate. So Brunelli must have declined the swimoff and gave the younger swimmer a shot. Which was very nice of him. Does anyone know if that's really what happened? usaswimming.org/.../tuesday finals.pdf Edit: the swimswam article got updated with this bit: Nick Brunelli ceded his 17th-place tie with Jacob Pebley for the 100 back semifinal, so the young future Cal Bear will get a big second opportunity.
