It's very certain and almost a given that swimmers like Rebecca Soni, Natalie Coughlin, Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt, Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, & Nathan Adrian will get their spots on the 2012 US Olympic Team
But one of the most exciting things about US OTs is the unexpected, those surprise qualifiers, the underdogs, those rapidly improving youngsters racing time, those comeback stories, & all the unexpected swimmers who make the US squad or even just make incredible improvements. those who shock the world and themselves. It's a wonder to behold.
it's tough, US only takes the top 6 men and women in the 100 & 200 free & only top 2 make all the other events.
A few unexpected olympians from years past might be:
michael in 2000, janet in 1988, Matt in 1984.
Who are your favorite unexpected US Olympians?
Who should we keep our eyes on for 2012?
Who are likely to be incredible in 2016?
Has anyone ever made a US olympic team who didn't even have trial cuts the year before?
can't wait for the fun to begin.
