2012 Olympics: Swimming

To be fair, the line between superstition (excuse me, I mean "anecdotal evidence") and science is pretty blurry in swimming and other sports with MANY coaches/athletes. It is just a little more obvious in this case. And I wouldn't discount the placebo effect here. And when you're willing (and capable, apparently) to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars at your training, why not try some things that may be a little dubious? Dara hasn't lasted this long in the sport by just doing what most people her age are doing. Hard to argue with that whether you love her or hate her!

Sounds like a very cool and interesting guy. I wonder why Ervin's training under the women's coach? That's not meant to be disparaging in any way. I really like Teri - went to school with her.

If Phelps just focused on the 100 free,maybe he could be close to Magnusson. If Magnusson wants to really have a race with Phelps he should swim the 200.He is saying"I really want to race Phelps in my best event in an off event for him." It is almost as bad as if Kitajima said"I sure hope Phelps swims the 200 BR so I can race him. Also, the Aussies are clearly the favorite in the 4X100 FR. I hear what you are saying- swim the 200 free if you want to really go head to head with Phelps in his best event. Then again, it seems that almost everything Phelps swims is his best event. The former AR holder in the 100 free is currently ranked #1 in the U.S.

Excuse me, but what? :nono: Last time I checked Gyurta beat Kitajima on the WC...:agree: 100 is for Kitajima.On the 200 BR Gyurta will win. Mark my words..:angel:Yeah, betting on an in-form Kitajima at the Olympics is such a long shot. ;) 2:08 flat in trials and one of the best big meet swimmers in history... I'm not going to bet against him. A few interesting swims this past week: Allison Schmitt went 1:55.0 in the 200 and then broke 54 in the 100. She's looking awesome heading into trials, she's been killing it all spring. She's not really know for great tapers, though. We'll see. Tae-hwan Park went sub 3:45 in the 400 in Santa Clara looking smooth and controlled. That guy is awesome, he won everything fron the 100 to the 800 at that meet. Ryan Murphy went sub 55 in the 100 back as a 16 year old. Almost broke the NAG record and beat Lochte (perhaps meaningless right now...).

He's always talking about how he's an "alpha male" and a "prize fighter". Now he's baiting the greatest swimmer of all time. The guy's 20 and hasn't gone to a single Olympics yet. Hall Jr. used to talk like that, but with his tongue a bit in his cheek. Also, Hall had the gold medals to go with the swagger. Magnussen will probably win the 100, but he should shut his mouth a bit before then.
