    The only people who aren't fully tapering with the current timing are those who are shoo-ins (a handful at the most) and those who've got no chance of making the team. I don't see how moving the meet to the spring would really change that. You could certainly argue that the current timing might adversely affect our swimmers' performance at the Olympics, because the vast majority of the team will need to retaper, but I don't think the timing affects most swimmers' performance at Trials. I agree, almost every competitor at the Trials did do a full taper. However, anyone who fully tapered and made the team does not have enough time to go back to work and re-taper. I believe much of the US squad will swim slower in the Olympics than they did at the Trials.
