We should move trials to the Spring to encourage a full taper and truly competitive meet The only people who aren't fully tapering with the current timing are those who are shoo-ins (a handful at the most) and those who've got no chance of making the team. I don't see how moving the meet to the spring would really change that. You could certainly argue that the current timing might adversely affect our swimmers' performance at the Olympics, because the vast majority of the team will need to retaper, but I don't think the timing affects most swimmers' performance at Trials.
