I wonder what one of the greatest swimmers of all time would think about all these gadgets like pool bouys, kickboards, paddles,flipflops,nose clips ect..?

He probably would have embraced every one of them. He's quoted about the lane line innovations. And he was apparently very keen on good technique. Something which all the water toys try to promote.
We didn't have the lane ropes, we had to get up higher in the water to avoid the little waves.
