Canadian Masters Swimming Championships 2011

The next Canadian Masters Swimming Championships will be held 5/20/2011 to 5/23/2011 in Montreal. I believe it will be SCM. Unfortunately the Masters Swimming Canada site has very little information on the meet as yet. I would like to correspond with someone who knows more details, including venue, which events are on which dates, event order, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!

You are totally right. Of course, I don't see a real SCM Nationals happening in the near future. It would be cool to do a Spring Nationals in SCM just to change things up. I agree.
  • I wonder how many facilities could actually support two 25 meter courses, though? There are certainly some that could, but I have a feeling there are others that aren't quite long enough. I believe the pool at Tennessee is over 50 meters; when the pool is set up for long course, the rather heavy bulkhead is still in the water, but moved to one end. That means in principle the pool could be set up as 2x25 SCM with the bulkhead in the middle. I attached a photo of the Tennessee pool to this post (unfortunately I can't figure out how to re-attach it here).
  • I wonder how many facilities could actually support two 25 meter courses, though? There are certainly some that could, but I have a feeling there are others that aren't quite long enough. For example, I think the Texas pool is 50 meters long and the bulkheads are lowered from overhead when short course (yards) is required. The pool has to be more like 52 meters long to support 2x25 meter courses, unless the pool is 25 meters wide. Maybe the Coral Springs pool in Florida? Most pools are build to be set up in yards for the winter and LCM for the summer. In PA, they built several pools this way in the 1990s and didn't build any warmdown pool for when the pool is set up in LCM.
  • I swam at the Canadian Nats in '09 in Toronto (scm). Great meet and very very well run. When the program said that event 12 would start at 12:46...........it started at 12:46!!:applaud:
  • Just remembered, the info for the meet in '09 came out much later than we are used to here. So be patient, they will get it squared away no doubt.
  • Canadian nationals this year is SCM. Thank you Arthur! I remember seeing that somewhere but could not recall the source. Is any other information available? Venue? Event order? Thanks!

Canadian nationals in 2011 will be SCM. Canadian masters isn't as structured as USMS. We have meets mostly just from October to May with most meets SCM. Our provincial (state) meets are usually SCM and nationals is usually SCM but if the host of the event has a LCM pool it might be LCM. Nationals was LCM last year and in 2004 but it was SCM every year between. I think this will be the website for 2011 nationals but at the moment nothing has been put up yet: http://www.cmsc2011.ca/

I found a French website that says it is at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal May 20-23. I can't find any additional information online. It should be up at that site I linked above soon.
  • Yep, Federal Way was configured that way in 2006 for SCM Zones. . I'd vote for a SCM Nationals at Federal Way. Way cheaper to travel there than most areas for me. :applaud:
  • Pretty sure the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way would work, too. There are two bulkheads in the pool. For long course the bulkheads are moved to each end of the pool. Thus, if the bulkheads are centered it would give two 25 meter courses. I know when the pool is set for 2x25 yards there's space between the bulkheads. So any other pool setup this way would be the same story. Yep, Federal Way was configured that way in 2006 for SCM Zones. Speaking of pools that can be reconfigured, our annual January meet in Anacortes is SCM in 2011!:banana::banana::banana::banana: The Anacortes pool is a strange one - it's T-shaped, where the top of the T is 25 yards across, and the other part of the T is 25 meters across. 6 lanes for each course. I guess warmup and warmdown will be a bit odd in the SCM configuration but that's a tradeoff I'll happily make.
